There will be NPC faction warfare as well as the capture of player owned planets.
Battles will take part on dynamic battlefields that are around 5 kilometres across.
There will be a cap to the number of players per battle, which will be no less than 64 at launch.
There will be a command structure: Squadleaders in charge of Infantry, will in turn be led by a player commander on board the MCC (Mobile Command Centre)
The Commander will effectivly be playing a real time strategy game, and will be dependent on the situation awareness of ifantry players.
There will be a number of sub-objectives, but the main goal will be to destroy the enemies MCC.
DUST 514 will feature ten different vehicle classes, 8 of which will be available at launch. These include Warthog style buggies, Fighter Aircraft, Dropships and tanks.
Infantry alike will be able to call in vehicles on the fly and have them dropped off by large dropships.
Commanders will be able to deploy ground installations, which can house large gun and missile emplacements.
Ground installations will also act as spawn points.
Vehicles and installations will be purchased with "war points" which are a non-persistant game currency. This will allow each fight to have an "escalation of war" and will help prevent players with accumulated wealth from dominating.
Rather than having a skill system like EVE Online or leveling system like World of Warcraft, DUST 514 will have an "achievement matrix" where objectives achieved in game unlock tiers which then give access to better items on the marketplace.
Like ships in eve EVE, weapons and vehicles will be customised with module slots.
There are two methods a DUST marine can use to get from planet A to planet B. The first is to clone jump, using similar technology to EVE Pod pilots. The second is to use their corps War Barge and fly to a hostile planet.
DUST players will have to use the war barge to attack hostile worlds.
Interaction with the wider EVE universe
EVE Pilots will own the majority of planetary districts, this will be introduced in the expansion following Dominion.
DUST marines will be securing key staging area districts.
Hiring Dust Marines will not be mandatory, but it will make the capture of planets easier.
Initially Interaction wit EVE players will be done througuh the New Eden Social Network (COSMOS).
Eventually CCP hope players in eve will be able to share the same social spaces as DUST 514 marines, presumably in stations.
Initially at least, the economies of EVE and DUST will be kept as seperate as possible. CCP do not want co-dependency between the games.
Technology and Subscription Model
It is rumoured that DUST 514 will use the Unreal game engine.
There will be a microtransaction model, rather than a subscription model.
Other Facts
All the races in factions from EVE Online will feature in DUST 514
There will be racial weapons, the strengths and weaknesses for each race that we all know and love in eve will feature in DUST 514
I dislike micro$ as well, but I think it has to do with the fact that it is run on a console. I don't know of any console games that require monthly fees, and the presentation was done with an xbox 360 controller, which leads me to assume that will be a primary platform. The xbox already has a sub. system in order to facilitate online access / gaming, and all purchases are done with points / micro $.
It should be a PC game. Microtransactions ruined combat arms almost as much as the shitty gameplay. If it was a free MMO for the PC, where you have to join a PMC made by an Eve player, that would be super-cool and stuff and Micro Transactions would be acceptable. But it's a console game, which you will have to buy, and if its not done extremely delicately, micro transactions will unbalance games ruthlessly. I have always wanted to play a game where the leader is 'playing an RTS game' and the soldiers on the ground have to follow orders (perhaps a council of people playing except just 1?) But I am not certain this will pull it off well enough.
It better come out for the pc because that's one reason I do not play shooting games on consoles because the reaction is way to slow due to the controller I rather spend more money on a pc to play damn good then for a console where it don't mater how well you handle your controller as every one knows that a pc gamer overrule on speed and tactics using the pc and its more fun. Consoles just kill the fun in shooting games so if it only would come out on a console then count me out
it would be a nice compromise if dust had keyboard/mouse support for ps3 or 360. id be that much more willing to go for a ps3 if keyboard and mouse was supported.
well, the Playstation 3 do indeed support computer mouses, but I'm not sure about keyboards. I saw my friend use a computer mouse on the main menu of a Playstation 3 once, but i don't know how it interacts in game.
It doesn't work with the game. it only works in the menu. Keyboards work as well, I have a blutooth mouse and keyboard hooked up to my PS3.
And contrary to the PC gamers here as I am an Xbox player, I don't mind microtransactions, I'm used to them. They worked in Chromehounds, I haven't played Combat arms, but, whatever. I actually don't like those monthly subscriptions very much.
As far as shooters on PC/Consoles, I MUCH prefer consoles because of the controller, using the mouse is un gainly for me. Sorry if I piss anyone off with that
i have to agree a FPS was surely not built to be played using a keyboard and mouse especially not a laptop. If you think otherwise its shows a pretty clear bias, pc gamers seem to think their better because they can use a more difficult controller than a console controller. Consoles have their issues, and im surprised they werent rubbed out due to all the money that sony and xbox made.
I'm with crash on this one. If this really is console only. Count me out, too. It really would have been cool and worthwhile if the game was set up so that it serves as a paid expansion to eve, where you can dock your eve ship onto the MCC and the get transported onto the planet via dropships and then essentially start your infantry dust 514 career down there. Additionally, I'd hate it if I spent a lot of time, ISK and effort into building up my infrastructure on a planet (as of tyrannis) just to then pass on the fate of that planet onto dust players who don't have any relation to the planet maintained by my alliance. And I definitely won't be buying a console just for one game of interest that would run and play better on a pc anyway.
I have a feeling micro-transactions will ruin this game. My advice to CCP, don't do it unless there is balance and function thoroughly built into the downloadable content. Also make the content cheap, most Xbox live user don't have any Microsoft points. CCP getting very money hungry like infinity ward when they really don't have the big of a fan base yet.
This game is going to be an epic fail. We can count on that. CCP is going after a dead market. Nobody follows Eve online anymore, its just a waste of time, they should work on getting their existing product working correctly.
to setis...... Fps community on consoles is tougher than you think, smokin someone bigtime while avoiding being killed is a bit different than minning some ore out of astro
How hard would it be to build a driver to support a USb controller for a PC? Or use one of the existing game controllers. Best of both worlds, PC game capabilities, Console control.
With all the Halo, GoW, and CoD players this is far from a dead market, and run better on PC? Fuck that, Not everyone has a high end pc, and CCP wants to branch out to consoles, so yes console only for dust.
It's not so much about it being a high end pc, but instead the fps genre being miles better on pc than on console. I have 3 current gem consoles, as well as the ps1 and 2 for memories sake and on none of them is a single fps game better or at least on-par with the same game on pc.
Although not an fps genre game, the alan wake game completely flopped when released console only. And it would be a massive blow for ccp and with that eve if dust flops as well.
damn, this decision is messed up, I have no problem with some console simple arcade fps armatures playing dust.
As EVE employer I would mess them up as much as possible ( fire them, sacrifice them ) but not giving this game to PC players - only ppl that understand it, is giving us a finger.
Alan Wake was that finger and karma was a bitch.
I would buy console long time ago even though game choice is so limited (especially simulations, strategies etc.) but besides ridiculous game prices their controls are NOT made for FPS. They are for some arcade stuff, racing light maybe. Controllers are so bad, they need some aimbots. Active and passive. So inaccurate and slow and awkward.
I remember when we (all pc players from different parts of the world almost at the same time) invented : WASD + mouse.
We started messing with doom, duke nukem and quake first. Finally all axis mouse was enabled ( not only left and right) and WASD instead of arrows due to their ergonomic layout. The most natural and intuitive system ever.
The only time I'm pissed at console players is when they interfere with my fun like hijacking and sometimes dumbing down pc games. Console gamers are not brightest crayons in a box. , so programmers have to simplify games for them.
omg shut up whining brats. Why shouldnt the console get something that pc doesnt? PC has eve for crying out loud. And besides, I doubt Dust will require as much of a learning curve at Eve, so therefore CoD/Halo guys will be able to get into it easily. I love pc games, trust me, but not everyone has 5000 dollars from their settlement money to buy a new high end pc. Let those on console actually have something. And before anyone says this game will fail, atleast wait for the game to come out. Geeze, its like saying Call of Duty and Halo would have failed before it came out.
The reason consoles don't have EVE is because they don't have enough controls or power to run it. The large fleet battles can make even powerful computers drop down to single digits in FPS, they would just crash a console, however there is no reason Dust 514, which is being developed by a PC developer, could not be put on PC.
Also gaming PC's don't cost $5000, a top end PC will cost you $2000 MAX and if you don't want overkill and just want something that can run every game on high detail it'll probably be between $500-1000. The only PC's that are $5000 are Alienware which are just massively overpriced, my PC cost me $2000ish and outperforms the most expensive ($10000) PC on Alienware's site.
My computer was $500 Dell + a $100 nvidea graphics card and it can run most things on very high. A bigger chassis and more graphics cards and ram would bring it up to like $1000 and the specs would beat a silly AlienWare. All you're getting with AlienWare is a bunch of name brand stuff and a fancy-schmancy coolant system. The PC's you build yourself will beat an AlienWare PC any day. All it takes is a trip to Fry's and some tech-savvy.
It's about time the link between consoles and pc games gets "alive" imo.
Hate the fact games like gta4 require an usr to use macro's to complete the game, because it's !Badly ported from xb 2 pc.
I would not play dust if it's not available for the pc myself, but this commander concept really looks like it could overcome the "link" issue, between aswd usage and those ******* thumb twisting controllers.
In my newb opinion an user who doesn't require a chat system, could play the console. A console user who would know his "commander", would be more tempted to choose for a certain commander. Also i believe visa versa wise the pc commander would prefer playing with real people and would prefer certain console users as candidates.
To the people worried about losing infrastructure, it says right there that eve players will control alot of the planets' surfaces. It's the staging areas of districts that provide a separate dimension of cash for eve players and dust players. Basically there are key locations on planets and the rest is untouched by any warfare.
Untouched eh? I think the nukes will think otherwise about this ;) I saw somewhere that with enough warpoints and the permission of the EVE player a nuke can be dropped on a lost battlefield. I can only imagine what kind of environmental and economic impact it has on the surrounding regions.
I just checked and it was in the keynotes for Fanfest 2009 that they said something like: bringing in ordinance and what not and using a nuke "if authorized by your employer"
Does anybody know if there will be offline co-op oppurtinity? I love games with offline co-op because you can play with your friend in front of one TV. Please make this game to be able to do so.
I am so tired orf everyone saying that dust 514 should be a pc game. EVE, a third person space vehicle game, something that sin't necessarily controlled like a fighter but rather click and go, IS for the pc. But FPS is console. Everyonesaid that BFMC2 would be better on pc than console, but i don't find that the case, graphics are better, alot of my friends who were born with a USB cord for a umbelical say that consoles are starting to look better on pc. The controls are easier to. With keyboard, you have to be all over the place, stand still and choose something. The 360 is a awesome FPS console. Halo 3 works better on the 360 than it EVER could on the pc. And besides that, you can talk in the game on cosole. If you were to try to fight someone on a pc against someone that was on console, chances are in the majority you would lose. Every style of game (EVE being DIFFERENT from a FPS, hint) has its advantages on certain consoles or pc. I do play EVE, and will play DUST514,good job CCP
Those of you saying that consoles have advantages over PC's have no real clue what your talking about. The XBox and PS3 are PC's with limited capabilities. There potential is limited by the hardware capabilities during the time period at which they are released.
Yes certain games seem to work better on a console because it was programmed specifically for the console. There for the programming is streamlined for that hardware setup. The PC version of that same game may seem clunky on the PC because the company put a shell around the console program so that it works with what ever OS they programmed it for.
Every game out there would be better on a PC than a console PC. If they wrote two versions but they dont. They write one set of code for the main audience and shell the second for other platforms.
I take it you've never played on a console. Or if so, you might have done badly. I know I improve on a console than I do in pc. And the the 360 isn't no "little" console. I played PC shooter games for years. I noticed alot of changes when I switched to console. And these are'nt makeups of a PC. When DUST comes out, alot of these complaints will be shot down.. When I say that I notice a difference, I notice everything goes alot smoother and quicker no matter what game. I've never heard of a PC shooter being better than it's console version. Look on gamestop, look on any other site, and you might notice that games on a PC that have console counterparts are rated lower. I'm not sure why these arguments come out. If you haven't bought a console before thats actually now considered modern, get one, and be quiet. If you have and you don't like it, thats fine. But when I hear of and see a console with a HD cable in my TV, I see it as a whole lot better. And I don't worry about bloody hotkeys.
Shiplash--You really need to get a clue man. Communications while gameing has been around ages before your little console was even conceived. And if your all over the place on a PC FPS thats just a matter of getting used to ASDW+mouse. The keyboard has more options and can be programmed so there for is far superior.
Never heard of a PC gamer standing still to choose anything unless they are a new pc gameing. Its called hotkeys man you set up your mouse and keyboard so you dont have to stand still and you set it up the way you want. Not the way the programmer thinks it should be.
Every one has their own play styles and enjoyments. But the facts are PC gameing has far more options and capabilities as of right now. Maybe consoles will catch up someday.
In another response to the first comment Nekko, it isn't just because they aren't built exclusively for the console. If you notice on the back of some or even in the info box, you'll see that there are minimum and recommended requirements. Test those against and 360, PS3. Battlefield Bad Company 1 and 2 are awesome games. The requirements for the recommended would make it look pretty cool if not amazing as the 360 and PS3 without HD cable. And as I said before, I don't worry about hotkeys on a console game. A forum on this website has already noted the fact that console players are better than PC players give them credit for. In my opinion, console has a advantage of good gameplay. PC fans on this forum are PC die hard fans. Nothing will deter them from that. But when DUST 514 is advertised and noted for it's new tech and techniques, console players will be curious. So do the rest of us a favor PC players of FPS, each to his own, and quit complaining, if you don't like, you don't like.
If every game would be better on a PC, I think the gaming market would be geared more to PC and the console would be like what the PC is now. In the backlight for FPS. PC is AWESOME for real time strategy. Maybe CCp might someday make it where an EVE pilot is in the commander role. But when people hear of a FPS game, the first thought is how it would play on a console, or which console, though PS3 and 360 are really the two main choices. Point is, watching just a couple of minutes on E3 seeing the spokesman of Sony PS3, his description of a gamer, which I thought the bit about the T.V. was a bit over exaggerating, did not say anything about PC. Point is, is that the majority of gamers maybe not even hard core, are into consoles more than PC. And it's not because they can't afford a good PC. One computer guru I know doesn't play on PC at all. But when I showed him DUST, he was hyped. Graphics and controls have caught up to PC. CRYSIS2. Which do you think will be easier for that?
