[CCP]CmdrWang: Q: will the mini map get some improvements? (height and distance information, better enemy presence etc.)

[CCP]Praetorian: We continue to improve all aspects of the game, and the minimap is no exception. In the next release you'll see a lot of improvements, both functional and visual, but we have more things planned ofc.

[CCP]Praetorian: And brandon will probably kick me for disclosing...

[CCP]Praetorian: we will be adding a pretty cool grid system on the overview map, to allow you guys to better communicate locations

Title says it all. CCP Hellmar (CEO, CCP) CCP Praetorian (Creative Director) and CCP Jian (Executive Producer) are all coming to chat on Friday the 28th of September at 04:00GMT (Thursday 21:00 PDT, Friday 00:00 EDT) on IRC. This will take place in the #DUST514 channel (not the beta channel). You can either connect using your own client (point it to irc.coldfront.net, ports are 6667 and 8080 for standard, 7778 for SSL) or use the Mibbit client provided here on DUST514.org.

This event is going to be run in two different channels. #DUST514 is where the questions will be posted, and then answered by CCP. You will be unable to talk in this channel during the event. #DUST514.q will be where you can discuss with other participants, and pose your questions to CCP. (Note that neither of these channels are restricted so no registration is required to join) If you're unfamiliar with IRC, I recommend you arrive early so that you don't miss anything and so that we can give you a hand if you're having trouble.

If you are using the Mibbit client
The Mibbit client linked will only join #DUST514 by default. In order to join the second channel, you can click the "#DUSt514.q" link at the end of the topic message that comes up when you first connect, or you can type (without quotes) "/join #DUST514.q"

To help us actually pick out questions from general discussion, we would ask you to add "Q: " to the beginning of your question. An example is:

This will help us filter out questions from the rest of the discussion. While forgetting to add "Q: " won't mean your question won't get picked, it just makes it harder for us to pick it out from everything else.

Logs will be provided after the event for those that can't make it. If you can't make it but wish to ask a question, I suggest that you find someone that does, or post it in the thread linked below and hope someone will ask it for you.

*The DUST 514 bundle is being offered by Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) and will be available only in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.

As you may have heard from sites all over the internet, It seems that Jack Tretton (CEO of SCEA) mentioned in a recent interview with FOX Business that DUST 514 is going to be coming out next month. This slip seems to have spread over the internet like wildfire.

However, I don't think that this is going to be the case. At the moment, CCP has said that the open beta hits this year. Just previous to that, they said the game was releasing "this year", but didn't specify when. They seem to be wanting to take their time to get it right (and to be honest, you can't blame them). My personal suspicions were that we would see DUST being released in late November/December this year at the earliest. At the moment, I would be pushing that back to early next year, with late December being the earliest.

So at this stage, I wouldn't hold your breath for DUST 514 next month. However there might be some truth to this - maybe something DUST 514 related is going to hit next month. We'll just have to wait and see.

Today we've gotten a new article on the PS blog regarding DUST 514 Neocom, the Vita companion app for DUST 514 on the PS3.

There's not a lot of new stuff for those that have been following for a long time, but for those that haven't I'll give you some quick facts.

Neocom is going to be a companion app to DUST 514. What this means is that you'll be able to do virtually anything you can do in DUST 514, bar actually fighting in battles. While for most FPS games this would be useless, this is a great addition for DUST 514 as it allows you to browse and buy/sell on the market, tweak fittings, manage skills and assets, and stay connected to your corporation and friends in the game through mail and chat. There is also potential for expansion in the future, though CCP for the most part has remained tight lipped on what those possibilities could be.

For those that don't have a Vita, don't worry. All the functionality present in Neocom will be present in the game on PS3. However, the Vita provides a way to manage it while you're out and about, or just don't want to boot up the PS3.

Good news if you're a playstation plus member and you're still struggling to get hold of a beta Key.  From the 21st of August you will get access to the Dust 514 closed beta. You can help test the first live direct connection to EVE Online as players on the main server in DUST 514 and EVE Online can chat in real time and send in-game mail between games. It’s a first in gaming!

Playstation plus members will also recieve a 50% discount on the Mercenary Pack for Dust 514 which gives access to in-game currency to spend in game, skill boosts, and exclusive gear. Now I know what you’re thinking: this is a beta, how can I buy Add-Ons if it’s in beta? Good question! Any Add-Ons that are purchased with Dust 514 while the game is in Beta will be carried over when the game releases later this fall. So buy with confidence!
