Not for PC is a joke.. Right??

Ok so I play eve and think its fantastic, however dust wont be on PC!? sounds dreadful, I dont play console anymore and think the rightful place for an FPS has got to be mouse and keyboard not that I have a problem with button bashers being involved but why leave us out.

I understand that keeping it off PC will help keep the number of eve players online but now I feel im paying subscription for half a game.

I think to bring the console community to eve wont be fun, iv seen a lot of xbox live even tried the vista live stuff and the console community seems to be made up of very young annoying children, at least by letting the PC community in there will be a balance of sensible and stupid.

So maybe releasing it on PC could be damaging to eve but I think its going to be far worse if they dont, I will certainly be giving up eve and moving over to something like Star Trek Online, the fact is you can beam to the surface of a planet without having to get up and walk away from your PC to use a different machine, and hopefully im not the only PC gamer left that feels this way.

I play both (PC and console)

I can see how DUST console only can be irritating, but you have to see it from a console standpoint, and a developer standpoint, hacking and cheating is unavoidable on a shooter, its really, really bad on the PC (compared to consoles) PC players have higher accuracy, faster turning, and an advantage, period (if they're good) Also, the fast majority of console gamers don't know anything about EvE, this will spark interest, and get more players.. Consoles also have more players and are where the money is at shooters wise.

As far as the yelling annoying tweens on Xbox live, they'll be weeded out quick, if you want to make it anywhere in DUST you have to work with the EVE community IE: not being a team killing annoying tween if you are you wont be hired.

Don't view DUST as a part of EVE you cant play, view it as a new thing, why would a pilot want to take bullets on the ground? Literally getting shot at constantly? DUST is a different world, a different game and appeals to a different person (in theory)

I don't think I can add anything else to that more than this: Cross-market exposure.

ow your not getting the point!@#!#!@#
you can have a whole army to your self all you need is a computer and EVE just to control an army.

sure they might be little kids but then you have the right to fire them and send them to bankruptcy( that is a lie idk if you can do that).

the thing i am hoping is for that EVE players can be come ground forces (if they want), but i prefer to have a whole super battle ship to myself then asking some huge noob for a tank.

Well speaking with the Dev's they main reason it isn't going PC or MAc is that it is to much of a security issue. With a PC the first BOTs come out within days, then the first cheats and macros come out.

They want to develop for the game and not spend time fixing hac's exploits etc... With BF2 to run a server you have to perform so many checks a day by looking for hackers.

If you run a console there are still people who can strip the disk and make bot's etc. and rebuild the disk but this is few and far between.

Im also not a console player and would like it to be on a PC but i understand why they dont want it.

I purchased the new Command an Conquer and with in 2 weeks there were hacks for it.. I stopped playing. I have stopped playing most MMO's or FPS unless it has a good security system which is hard to break.

Why play a cheater.

FlyingRock your post was a very good point of view, you have slightly changed my opinion, I think I have to retract "I will certainly be giving up eve" and add "I may give up eve"

I guess I will have to wait for it to be finished and released to see how it all turns out but I still think a PC version should be released because it will still be grinding away in the back of my mind that I cant join the action on the planets unlike the up and coming mmorpg where I could get involved.

I dont do as much fps as I used to but I can remember the hackers, it wasnt so hard to move on to a different server and have a fair fun game its just one of those things you have to keep on top of as the programmer I guess, but you cant let the hackers win and give up on PC FPS unless its just going to be about making profit by slamming out game after game the easy way rather than spending the time and money to perfect the product.

Cheating is crippling to MMOFPS's, i can understand you wanting to get in on the action on the ground, but you cant do both ya know?

I think if it fails on the console they'll port it, but for now i think its a good thing overall, there's no good answer for modders on the PC, and imagine of they managed to hurt things in EVE?

BTW: DUST has convinced me to give EVE another try, im hoping to get into a good corp quickly lol.

ok i gave up eve 8 months ago ..and know for a fact that starting again with a new toon would be worthless to me ..
now up pops this game called dust and i get that warm feeling all over again ..until they tell me it's just for consol freeks

wanna make money and get back the people you have lost ccp let us play this on the pc ..
btw i was over 70m sp and 4.5yrs playing ..

Link to this post 14 Dec 09

No matter how you spin it, an FPS of any sort is more secure, and worth more on consoles, they could make it for the PC and gain the few players they've lost, or they can make it for consoles and gain ALOT more players.. The sales speak for them selves, if CCP can even get HALF the units sold for DUST within the first month it'll be amazing: COD:MW2 sold 4.2 million units on Xbox 360 and 1.87 million on PlayStation 3 in the US for the month of November 2009

There you have it, in this day of age when a game bombs it really, really hurts the company.. So go with where the numbers are.

To be honest i'm not sure why you deleted your account, it's not like CCP has pulled an SOE, but thats for another time

Link to this post 14 Dec 09

The fact that DUST wont be on PC (atm) is a good thing, for one with no disrespect to console haters, if you prefer mouse and keyboard to a control pad, thats your choice, but if consoles players can fight better than you on a console then using a PC whats your argument.

If CCP choose not to release a PC version for security reasons, and the aim of it is to gain more interest in the EVE genre from the console community, I call that exloiting your market potential, also negating the bleed off of PC players into consoleism, perhaps once the market interest reaches a average usage level and the online players peak, maybe CCP will release a ported version for PC. Think like a businessman and you'll understand why CCP have done this.

If you feel your being done overby CCP by being expected to pay a subscription for only half a game, please stop whining like a child who didnt get what he/she wanted for christmas! Your paying for a game, the fact that CCP are releasing a whole new game completely different to EVE Online, just because it effects certain game mechanics only by Meta Data. You either play one or the other you can't play both at the same time so why complain. The fact that both games are on completely different platforms backs that up. So if life is harsh and you dont like what CCP are doing, kinder answers one question.

Will CCP be hiring you for future developments?.....No , didnt think so.... <!-- s:twisted: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt=":twisted:" title="Twisted Evil" /><!-- s:twisted: -->

Me too, mining Ore in EVE to sustain my character, while at the same time killing helpless amarr soldiers in DUST.

There are already many anti-cheat solutions available that are easily accessible, and while they may be bypassed, the hackers may be reported and summarily flogged, er, banned. Punkbuster, originally a fan-made solution for Counter-Strike, is built into Battlefield 2142, and in my experience with 2142, PB is highly effective. Cheating is a rare thing to see, and harshly punished when administrative support is available. In Dust, Administrative support will always be at least minimally available, and the only thing that needs to be worried about is false alarms.

The false alarms could be filtered through with a 1st-person spectator mode available to the Customer Support Representatives. While this may seem a tedious use of CSR time, it is really quite easy to differentiate between a very good player and a hacker if one knows what to look for (for aim-bots this primary mechanism is screen movement prior to the shot and tracking while firing).

Like I said though, even with relatively little activity from moderators, simple automated solutions are available to prevent hackers from being effective, making hacking on PC just as rare as on console platforms, and the level of support available at odd hours could attract many more mature players to the game, as the lack of administrative support is a bane to most FPS's.

Well said SandTrout and I was in disagreement with you FlyingRock at first but as some others have pushed forward this really is a marketing strategy for CCP to gain interest in their abilities in fps console development and the New Eden universe. Another good point mentioning here comes straight from the fanfest 2009 video when they were describing both Eve Online and Dust 514 and how exactly they would interact.

In there they mention that these are two completely separate games. Now you may be thinking that's not true...If the Eve players can contract marines to carry out operations in the Dust world and such and such. They say in their presentation that if all interactions between the two games ceased or for some reason was cut off that it wouldn't matter. They are two separate games and even though they have some synergistic elements, they ultimately won't rely on each other. So when you get right down to it having it on PC or not having it on PC doesn't matter, its all a marketing gamble.

I play Eve, I play call of duty, I have played alot of games and I for one would buy ANY console that this game comes out on.

The biggest weekness of any FPS is the lack of persistancy. and CCP are masters of persistance.

CCP take note, dont screw it up!

they screwed this game the second they said it wouldn't be for PC or Mac.
They have KILLED a HUGE percentage of their own fan approval by doing this.

I'm afraid i will have to retract &quot;some&quot; of my venom on this topic, I was not made aware of this information till i stubbed upon it.

&quot; It should also be welcome news for everyone who is hoping for a PC release as the current engine (Unreal Engine 3) was designed for DirectX9/10 PCs, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This should mean that even though as far as we know, DUST 514 will initially only be a console only release. The hopes for a PC port after release remain alive.&quot;-CCP
