I dont want all dust 514 maps to be the same like the surface of the moon.Do you guys want urban areas, jungles or both?
SORY if i dont spell go me dont know engwish!
Is CCP gona have every map the same?
Like in Templar One? that'd be crazy if they introduce an NPC element to the battles. Moving hazards for sure!
What if in erban areas our job is to defend the city or attack it, we have got all the crazy ideas hope they get that all on the updates and dlc humhum free dlcs.
i'll admit that I haven't really played much EVE, tried the free trail but it felt too overwhelming. However, I do know that my buddy that had me try it really trusts CCP to do this right. Based on what he's told me about them I have to agree. I think they know that they're going to need a lot of diversity in their maps for this to keep people playing.
The amount of maps doesn't matter, as long as they're designed well enough to prevent us from noticing that its the same map. For example. I've played Battlefield for awhile, and they've rarely had a wide array of maps, but they always build them so that its very rare that you end up in the same fight twice, so even if I play a map over and over the fight always feels different.
Hopefully CCP has learned this lesson well :)
Try playing Operation Metro. Always seems to be the same choke points. But to be honest with a map that small, what do you expect?
I'm hoping that CCP weave some generation magic that allows them to dynamically generate the map from pre-built tiles of a certain size, with certain tiles locked in based upon the buildings present at the site. Or something like that.
Metro is only bad because DICE did the stupid thing and increased the damage RPG's and Grenades do since their beta. It turns that map into shit because every puss that doesn't know how to handle accurate fire starts spamming explosives to compensate for a complete lack of skill. I've seen guys running around that map with over FORTY service stars for the 320, and predictably, they suck with any weapon that fires a bullet.
IMO the best map designs i've seen so far were in BF 2142 including their Northern Strike expansion. I never got tired of the Northern Strike maps. I talked to a friend of mine tonight about the basic layout of buildings on the planet. From what I understand they can place them where they want, so maybe they'll have some basic terrain layouts for each planets climate with the ability for buildings to be placed in several different configurations, so that would definitely help break up the repeatative nature of maps in an FPS.
BF2142 was in my opinion the best of the series. You're right though, if you remember Camp Gibraltar, we never had problems like that, even with the choke points at the border crossing. Even with grenades doing as much damage as they do now, we still didn't have those problems. It really is just way too small in that area near the ticket booths.
"focused action" = chokepoints = spam spam spam of explosives. Which sucks. 2142 had GREAT map design. I'd like a map design theme somewhere between 2142's flow and Project Reality's large areas.
Because this game is structured the way it is (people fighting thousands of planets), no map will be completely the same. CCP will, from what I have gathered, use a map-generating programme to create every map. These maps, however, will not be generated until a corporation occupies a planet and places a resource-harvesting facility.
I'm sure CCP will create an algorithm that favors balance to some extent, and puts limitations on how many choke points and whatnot that maps will have. From what I have seen, we will see bases ranging from small outpost (like we saw in the pulse-clip) from large urban-like facilities that you see in the "main" trailer.
Memeotis. Yep, i even remember reading that CCP had to do a blog post "soon" on that map generating technology.
But, i dont remember any precision regarding the map being generated only after people "colonizing" it. Do you have any source on that ? i'd be interested :)
On that note, CCP CmdrWang said that the battlefield will be generated taking into account the type of site being attacked.
@Caza I don't need a source, it's just logical. :P It makes sense that maps would first be created once a player chooses a location to place a facility. Pre-generating ALL the maps for Dust would mean making millions, if not billions of maps, which would make no sense.
I really hope they have some diverse and innovative maps. It would be spectacular to have some underwater maps as well as ones with different levels of gravity and natural elements, e.g, extremely tectonically active planets which effectively resemble a volcanic, earth-shaking hellhole to ones which had nigh constant disastrous weather such as hurricanes and typhoons which could randomly appear on a map. Hopefully CCP will do us proud.
I don't think we will have underwater maps at first, but I can certainly see potential for them in the future considering we have oceanic planets. And then on top of that we also have Gas, Lava, Plasma and Storm planets. So that's no ground, everything melting around you, plasma everywhere and lightning striking everything around you (and you) respectively.
But for now they will stick with the Temperate and possibly Barren.
Understand that there are many many planets each planet is generated at launch then will only change as players, both eve and dust change them. now this may sound boring, but with 5 to 10 thousand temperate planets in eve and several battlefields per planet the number of maps people will be fighting on are just insane.
Yeah Chucky. I don't recall where, precisely, but I feel pretty certain that CCP mentioned something about their maps for Dust514 being at least partially dynamically generated.
I also distinctly recall that they have ambitions to expanding battles to more inhospitable environments in the future, citing an idea for environment suits. I really should get in the habit of taking notes with citations for Dust information.
