Has CCP released anything about how they plan to deal with cheaters? I have near a year's experience on MAG, and you have to cheat to really get anywhere in that one. They're all over the place, most especially Raven and SVER.
Combatting cheaters
we have no infos on any sort, even less on anti-cheat system with some luck we will learn some stuff during fanfest, but cheat have to be taken very seriously as the game fights results will have impact on eve online, if ppl not playing the game see some theyre work ruined on eve online because of ppl cheating or even ppl suspected to cheat, the game will be massively rejected, even boycotted (eve players are very ressourcefull) and the game will be quickly in troubles
I think it's going to be like any other game.
Cheaters get banned, rest of us point and laugh at them.
I wonder how t hat's going to work on the PS3 though. With all this news about the PS3 hacks, cheating is going to get a HELL of a lot easier.

You need to check out MAG some time. Unfortunately, Zipper Interactive, the company that made MAG, has a history of completely ignoring cheaters starting in 2002, which was when the first SOCOM was released. So also unfortunately, I have no personal experience with a game developer getting rid of cheaters, and freeing up the game's world to those who want to play honestly.
I've read that there's basically little that's considered cheating in EVE, where it's okay for players to steal ships as well as the funds of whole corporations. But if somebody is using something like an AIMBOT, that's just not fair. I also understand that a lag switch would probably be hard to detect, and even harder to deal with.
I'm definitely looking forward though to a game that seems like a mix of Mercenaries, SOCOM, MAG, and Splinter Cell, taking place with a Type III civilization. (When is EVE taking place? 8000 AD?)

EVE takes place in another galaxy, an unknown time into the future. However, important bits are that people came from Earth, the gate allowing travel between the galaxies blew up, whole galaxy was plunged into what was basically a dark age where everyone had to relearn everything. You know the dark ages that we've had? EVE went back to that point from travelling to other galaxies. I think from memory, that it's currently set about 5,000 years after the EVE Gate collapsed.

Unless it effects everyone equally, meaning every player then yes, CCP will react. However if its dispute between two groups of players, or a minority, or even a majority, CCP wont act, does not matter how fair, hours wasted, etc and its good precedent they have all ready set by doing so.
An example of what it would take for them to act is things like "developer misconduct in Eve Online have been substantiated, leading to debates and controversy within the game community. On February 9, 2007, a player known as Kugutsumen revealed that an Eve Online developer nicknamed 't20' had provided his alliance, Band of Brothers, with ten valuable blueprints, giving them an advantage over competing alliances.[89] Some within the Eve Online community asked for t20's dismissal. While an apology letter was left for the community in the form of a dev blog, he remained an Eve Online developer until late 2008. Kugutsumen was permanently banned from the Eve Online universe for violating the game's Terms of Service and End-user License Agreement by revealing t20's real name.
In response to public concerns, CCP decided to set up an Internal Affairs division initially headed by Ari Eldon, better known in-game as Arkanon, whose responsibility is to monitor the activities of both privileged and player accounts operated by CCP staff in-game"
Using another example many complaints from gamers consider using alts - or alternate accounts(CCP loves alternates for the $ which goes to funding where eve is around its 8th expansion), to cuase grief, or abuse this feature will be largly ignored; citing when the "Band of Brothers and the Mercenary Coalition declared war against GoonSwarm and invaded Syndicate for approximately two and a half weeks, effectively immobilizing GoonSwarm in the JQV constellation. GoonSwarm then shifted tactics, creating an entire fleet of characters with the moniker "VCBee XXX" with XXX being a random number. Using these throwaway VCBee characters that cost next to nothing when killed, GoonSwarm engaged in guerrilla warfare against Band of Brothers, both in 0.0 and empire space. GoonSwarm also declared war on IRON, RAZOR and a host of other alliances in an act of defiance.
After Band of Brothers moved out of the region, after realizing that continued warfare against freshly created characters was pointless"
In this Dust514 whilst tracking numbers of kills and deaths is useful for forum posturing and self-congratulation, it has little bearing on 0.0 warfare where what matters more is the ability to take and control territory, harass hostile industrial and economic operations, and to break the morale.Leaderboards meh... GoonSwarm effectivly prooved during their reign that kills to deaths ratio meant nothing, at points in time, it can be good to have a lot of deaths, if by the sheer ammount of those deaths, the enemy is forced back and endures lost ground. Clans like Pro, and KEQ would be right at home
I expect simmilar strategies to develop on the ground, the trick is what can yourself without help from omnipotent, to think out of the box as well to counter.
Agreed with Stupid_Drunk, though I gotta say that last part was pretty off topic. That said, it's unlikely that in Dust alts will have such a great impact, and with instanced battles claiming territory not so important (except for objectives, of course). However, I agree with the thinking out of the box part, as proper tactics will baffle even great killers. In that sense, the vehicles will ease that particular playstyle. I can think of a few uses for the ones already announced.
Yea etero, but sparky who is good, has trouble though, and this is not only my opinion. People are not all hackers/cheaters, also spark4dead, when I killed him once either responded with "freaking aimbotter" or another, as he was coming around a corner. He has called others on Raven and SVER aimbotter/hacker/cheater , who were not. The small % of gamers who do hack/cheat is not represenative of I would say any online community. Don't let a bad apple ruin the boxcart,as the saying goes. <!-- s8-) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8-)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8-) -->
I imagine at least 50 - 80 % of the cheaters he refers too got the honest drop on him, and as many can not say hey that is possible what just happened. Its the same thing when I hear a downed enemy say theis glitcher shot me through the wall, on my sceen you were not behind a wall.
It is very possible to loose and have a high KDR, while the enemy goes negative which is not due to hackers/cheaters. Which happens to spark enough, over the last 12 months, he will have a high KDR but the match was lost.
I frankly never talk about hackers/cheaters in game its a waste of time, makes the group angry everyone plays worse, because youre focuising on a negative, and the cycle gets worse, unless someone the squad can break it with a good killstreak in an area, and way that the enemy is left confused or feeling rushed.

I would accept that it could be a huge lag problem; like coming around a corner, get shot in the head, then when my body falls down the guy is already 15ft away working on somebody else.
Lots of people on the MAG forum have complained about guys running 20ft straight ahead through a hail of gunfire, don't get killed, and knife somebody once from the front and bleed the person out.

When the Americans lag as bad or worse than the Japanese, it's easy to know that they're doing something with their connection.
I would hope that CCP is able to analyze connections and put two and two together and see who's doing unfair BS.

Actually on the west coast, Comcast and TWC will lower and up their connection consistently throughout the day.

Eve takes place in AD 23,347. Or YC 113. It is set more than twenty-three thousand years into the future.
