Any ideas as to when or if Eve's combat and movement will be revamped?

We've been given a hint or two as towards intent of improving combat and movement, one example being a trailer/video i think the Eve staff either made or approve of showing space combat whilst flying within an asteroid. To be honest, primarily that and more avatar interaction/stations/fps style combat within eve are what I've been waiting for before i get into the game, and the latter fused with the deep, deep and immensely intricate metagame of Eve is why I'm playing dust. I'm wondering as to whether any of you have had similar notions and I'd welcome your thoughts on the subject. Also, this is a repost of the same thread I've put up on the Embers of Caerus forums (which you may want to check out) so you may want to have a look over at what they have to say as well. http://www.embersofcaerus.com/forum/showthread.php/820-Any-ideas-as-to-when-or-if-Eve-s-combat-and-movement-will-be-revamped?p=14361#post14361

For all those interested as to what exactly Embers of Caerus is and is intending to be (it's in development) have a look at the vision! http://www.embersofcaerus.com/content.php/137-The-Vision I'll leave the rest for you to discover yourselves :P

The video you're thinking of was made by an EVE fan in the UDK engine and has nothing to do with CCP. (It is a great video though)

First off you have to remember that EVE is still an MMO, and as such has limits to the sophistication of actions and animations possible in-game due to the massive amounts of resources required server-side, especially in a game with only 1 server and 40,000+ players online at a time. Flying through a hollow asteroid may be possible in a 3d animation made in the unreal engine, but real game mechanics could make this impossible, and server resources might not allow to implement things like objects in space actually blocking enemy fire.

Combat in EVE is already more complex and vibrant than any other MMO, though it may not seem that way to a casual observer. There are so many factors that you take into account and adjust for during a firefight it's ludicrous. This goes double when you're fighting in fleets with dedicated ship roles.

I'm also not sure what you mean by revamping 'movement' in EVE. The current 'click where you want to go' scheme works very well, and as much as drop-down menus may irritate me from time to time, they are effective at what they do and very efficient.

Walking in stations will be likely released during the next expansion in summer 2012 I believe, since they backtracked to improve gameplay in Crucible because it badly needed some love. They have already announced the desire to implement things like physical shops you can own and sell things out of (what things, we don't know. Could be fast food, or guns, or both!) as well as lounge areas to chat and interact with other avatars. Several devs have also voiced their own vision of what out-of-pod gameplay will be like, expressing desire for some combat and exploration. This is going to be years in the making, though, so don't hold your breath for any of it just yet.

I like the sound of the out-of-pod gameplay! :D Nevetheless, i hope eventually they do make the combat just a bit more interesting. I mean aiming and dodging is something I'd really, really, like to see if at all possible.

Could inferno be what I'm looking for? :D

I don't think so man. It looks like its going to be another space-combat-heavy expansion with major changes to way several major game mechanics work (legal wars, faction warfare, sovereignty) to tie in with DUST.

Though CCP Guard did say "There is a dev blog coming tomorrow that touches on the future of avatar based gameplay"

So lets see what that holds. I'm hoping we'll finally be able to open that damn door...
